Announcement Forum Purging

Posted by Okazaki (Moderator) at Feb 9 2009, 11:35 PM. 0 comments

Alright, on to the point. As y'all can see, there are only the more recent announcements up and the ones pinned. Don't go crazy now. All the announcements from up to a certain time has been queued. Many will be rewritten or reitterated, while many will be deleted. Why?

For one, the Announcement Forum is for Announcements. And as such, I deem it only to be a forum where Announcements will be kept. No suggestions. Effective February 10th, 2009, I will be closing any and all announcement threads to members unless specifically stated by the moderator or admin who created the thread. And that shouldn't happen to often. Unless the mod in question created a link to a feedback thread for that specific announcement in suggestions, which will be purged after two week of inactivity, an and all complaints, concerns, etc... will be redirected there.

Nature of announcements will vary, but they are often important. Daily, weekly, monthly announcements, detailing the current ins and outs of what we, the staff is doing behind the scenes will not be pinned, as well as announcements about plots and other general announcements. All other types will be subject to viewing before being pinned.

That's quite it. Just a heads up on what's going on. This will be unpinned within a week. Since this is a new thing, any feedback should be sent to my account via PM.

New Dorm Registration

Posted by Otoha (Administrator) at Feb 9 2009, 10:34 AM. One comment

To make things a little less chaotic, the dorm registration topic has now been given its own sub forum here in the announcements. If you already have a room in a dorm, are new and want to register for a dorm room, or have a new character that needs a room, please post in the appropriate dorm house. The occupant list will be updated frequently with who lives in what dorm. Thanks guys!

Class Descriptions

World Studies: An elective period where every class meeting is a field trip! Whether it’s cave diving, old haunted mansion exploring or seeing historical landmarks throughout Shinya…there’s bound to be something exciting going on. And probably dangerous too…

Music: Interested in playing instruments or singing? This class is probably for you, then.

Poetry/Writing: If you’re the kind of student who loves to write, and want to express your inner feelings of love or turmoil or dark teen angst, then you should probably sign up here.

Etiquette: A class in the fine art of dining, ballroom dancing, Fencing, Equestrianism, proper manners and all other elements of the upper crust of life. If you’re of the aristocratic class or just simply can’t eat in a public place without drawing the wrong kind of attention to yourself….maybe you should sign up?

Survival: Shinya’s a dangerous place, and every student should be prepared for the worst. Namely because it’ll probably happen! Learning to defend yourself against robot armies, platoons of mutant creatures or other dark monsters are necessary skills for any Shinko student to have. So if you wanna live to see graduation, maybe you should sign up!

Art: For those skilled with a paintbrush or pencil or molding clay (or those wanting to be) you should sign up here.

Gym: Sports! Competition! Obstacle courses! Here’s where it all goes down, pitting Shinya student against Shinya student in daily challenges that will test their ability to work as a team (and their ability to do more than sit on the couch!).

Study Hall: Maybe you just don’t get it and need some tutoring from one of Shinya High Schools teachers. Or maybe you’ve got a crush on that one upper classman who always gets high marks, and you want to get some homework help. Or maybe you’re a brainy student who just wants extra time to study. If you’re any of the above, this period is for you. But remember! No note passing! (at least don’t get caught <<)

School Schedule

Posted by Otoha (Administrator) at Feb 9 2009, 09:48 AM. 0 comments

Last week we held an open suggestion thread asking what kinds of extra curricular classes you guys wanted to see on Shinya’s class schedule. We had just enough for three during each elective period—so here’s how it’s all going to work.

For those of you that don’t know, Shinya High School runs on an actual ‘time of day’ schedule. In the ‘Intercom’ forum, periodic announcements will be made, just like they would over an intercom system at a high school, announcing when periods change and when certain events happen within the school (watch this forum so you can stay up to date with where we are in the scheme of the daily schedule). As per the list below, Shinya will run on an 8 period (Lunch counting as a period) day. When the school day starts, an announcement will be made in the intercom. Normally this would mean period one, but we’ve made a few changes here. We will only be announcing when the three elective periods (4, 6 & 7) and the Lunch period will be going on. The core classes that you list in your schedule aren’t RP classes, meaning that there won’t be scheduled times for them to be played out. Instead, when the intercom announces the change in periods, we’ll add in little blurbs about the core classes and events that might have happened in them (ie: ‘Sawakita-sensei gave her legendary ‘impossible to pass’ mid-term during Post-War History today’ or ‘Please be advised that students are not to venture near the science wing due to an explosion in Tagaki-sensei’s chemistry class last period. Authorities are still detaining the mutated back pack eating cacti, left out from Murakami-sensei’s botany class). These little blurbs can be used by you, IC, throughout the day if you want and can give you material to work with for starting threads with fellow classmates(ie: ‘Oh my gosh that mid-term was so hard, I know I failed it. How’d you do?’ or ‘Waaaaah! I’d been growing my cactus for weeks!’ ‘But hey…if it eats backpacks, maybe you can tell Tachibana-sensei that your homework ate your homework?’ etc.).

The extra curricular ‘elective’ classes can be RP’ed during their announced time (if you’re still in a thread when the time changes, feel free to continue in it), however, they are not mandatory. These classes can be started by anyone in that time slot’s specific class (please keep it to one thread per class per period) and the direction of the class can be left up to you. We’ll have NPC teachers set up for each period, which you, or the staff, are welcome to play out. This gives members free reign to use their creativity for projects and special events that they want going on in their classes and lets you all shape your threads as you like, rather than the way an actual played out teacher would lead it.

Here is the schedule list that should be edited into your editable profiles, as well as the available elective classes that you can take for each period (one elective per period, of course).

Period 1: Core
Period 2: Core
Period 3: Core
Period 4: Elective (World Studies, Music, Poetry/Writing)
Lunch
Period 5: Core
Period 6: Elective (Etiquette, Survival, Art)
Period 7: Elective (Gym, Survival, Study Hall)

The list below shows you what core classes you can list for your character’s schedule. They’re more for show than anything, so add whatever you like—but have it make sense. If your character isn’t the sharpest crayon in the shed, they’re obviously not going to be taking advanced physics or college level calculous. And likewise if your character is of the brainy persuasion, they’re probably not going to take remedial Japanese. When the new season starts, it will be the 1st semester of the new year, so choose your core classes accordingly.

1st Year

2nd Year
Spoiler: click to toggle

3rd Year

To summarize everything, in case anyone is left with an ‘…okay, so what now?’ feeling:
Make your choice of core classes for your schedule—just for show. They will not be RPed, but Intercom announcements will detail events that happened in them for IC out of class RP useage. Choose them based on your character’s year in school.
Make your choice of elective classes from the offered electives during the elective periods. These can be RP’ed, but will no longer be staff-run. One topic per class per period.
Please remember to post your edited school schedule into your profile (follow the code listed below). If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me or any of the staff. We’ll answer your questions ASAP. Thanks everyone, and I hope you’re all psyched for the new season!

Shinya's New Level System

Posted by Otoha (Administrator) at Feb 2 2009, 11:09 PM. 0 comments

With the new season starting and the poll and discussion on levels over and dragging on a little too long, we’ve decided to introduce the new level system.

First and foremost, characters themselves will no longer be classified by a general level. It’s a little too broad and unspecific, especially when you take into account that, by the old level 13, characters could have up to three powers, and a gain of EXP didn’t necessarily show the character developing their abilities. With this new system, each individual power of our characters will have its own level.

In order to ‘level up’ your abilities, or make them grow in power or range or in number of uses per post or thread, you will have to start, complete and submit a power development thread. These threads should have a solid start, climax and conclusion that shows your character training and developing the power that they have. There isn’t a minimum or maximum length on these, but please use your better judgment. These threads are development threads, and we will be reviewing them when you submit them before we approve the level up. In other words, if they’re only a few posts long, and those posts are only a few short paragraphs, we’ll probably ask you to continue.

Your character can embark on these development threads for their powers, but each thread can only develop one power. Also, there has to be a one month cool down between the date of submission of one power development thread and the start of your next one. We will check the dates on these when they’re submitted, so if they’re any earlier, they will be considered void.

There is still a starting two-power limit for every character, however, the old one-time-only gift of a third power at level 13 will now be handled like this: Once you reach 100 posts, you will be able to start a power development thread for your character finding their new power. This development thread will be submitted and approved in the same fashion as your level up development threads for your already established powers. Again, though, this is a one time only gift for showing that you’re dedicated to RPing on Shinya. It doesn’t come every 100 levels.

So, now that we have the new level system, there’s obviously going to be some edits that need to be made to already submitted profiles. Stats and the level system that we have now has been completely removed—in its place on your profile, please enter in a format like this:

Code:

[u]Ability Levels:[/u]
[b]Put the name of your character’s first ability here[/b]: Put that ability’s level here

[b]If they have one, second ability goes here[/b]: Put that ability’s level here

[b]If they have a third ability, that ability goes here[/b]: Put that ability’s level here

If your character is currently considered level ‘8’, each one of your character’s established abilities will get a power level of ‘1’. Any current level points you have above 8, divide those up between your characters powers. (So if your character is level 12, you have 3 points to divvy up between their powers, or if they only have one, to put into their one power. Since the base power stat is 1: 1+3=4)

When you are ready to submit your development threads for approval, please post a link to them in the old EXP Claim forum, now re-titled Development Submission. Once your thread has been approved, you can add the appropriate level point to your power.

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me or IM me and I’ll help you get squared away ASAP. Please make all appropriate edits to your characters’ editable profiles.

New School Classes System

Posted by Otoha (Administrator) at Jan 25 2009, 03:27 PM. 11 comments

With the new season coming up, and updated bios being approved, a few changes are going to be presented and put into play for you guys to enjoy. One of the new changes involves class.

I dunno about anyone else, but there are times (actually…it’s kind of all the time) when I really don’t feel like going to class IRL…so having mandatory classes to attend in an RP seems even more not fun. So instead of making classes something that you have to attend every day, we’re going to shake things up a little bit.

In a school day, there are going to be 8 classes. 5 of them are core classes (math, history, science etc.) that will be taught by NPC teachers—however, instead of being classes that you actually go to, they’ll simply be assumed to be a part of everyone’s schedule, and whatever events that happened in them that day will be announced over the intercom whenever the time change is announced (for example- Saito-sensei began mid-term History exams today. Or ‘Due to an explosion in Toda-sensei’s Science Room last period, we advice all students to stay away from the Science Wing. The mutated Tulip Bushes are still being combated and detained by local authorities’). You can use the information in those announcements IC in your threads if you want throughout the day. Like ‘Oh my gosh I didn’t study for that test. I totally failed’ or ‘Holy cow I dunno how we made it out of the lab before the potted plants started exploding’.

In addition, there are going to be three extracurricular/fun classes that will be taught, also by NPC teachers, that you can RP at your leisure. The staff will come up with Bios for all the teachers in all of the classes, but class events and lessons don’t have to be RP’ed unless you want to start a thread for them yourself for fun. This will allow classes to not seem so boring and monotonous, and probably make the threads more fun to be in and play through (if you noticed, a lot of classes usually ended early due to inactivity).

But before we put this new change into action, I wanted to hear from you guys about what kinds of extracurricular classes you’d like to see. These would be along the lines of Home Ec., Survival, P.E., Cooking, etc. Please post here with any nominations you have for the Extra Curricular classes, and have your nominations in by next Friday. We’ll then put it to a vote and decide on the three classes by the end of next weekend.

Thanks guys! Hope you enjoy.
