Peach! clapclap Posts: 1,699 Group: Moderator Member #678 Joined: July 9, 2007	Gah, I hav a lot of art threads, maybe I should condense them into one? Anyways, this is my hand drawn stuff, more specifically the first cover for my manga. It's just a pencil sketch, I still have to figure out how I want to color it, and what I want to call the manga. Nao is actually my main character, sothat's her holding the ball, which I will later turn into a soccer ball.

But there are a few little things that kind of... make the picture seem a little off, you know? I don't know if it's the way you did Nao's hair, but her neck is kinda thin... And so are the way you make your limbs. I understand that in some styles, limbs are long and skinny (Ex. CLAMP) but Nao's left arm (my right) is a little longer than her left. The male behind is quite thin at the hips too - because if the size of his head, they should be slightly wider unless he's standing to the side. The position of the hands though makes it look like he is standing back-to-back to Nao. Rule of thumb is that shoulder and hips are generally the same widthfor males. Females generally are the same, but the hips can be larger. The clothes are relatively simple, but pay attention to the sleeves. Regular sleeves don't hang; they mold around the wrist. Instead of a straight line to end the sleeve, curve it just a bit. This will make your characters less 2-D and more 3-D, without any shading at all. And the soon-to-be soccer ball is mildly flat. That can easily be fixed by making it a teeny bit taller. And I have ranted too much. It looks like I typed a lot, but they're just little things you need to fix to make your characters look less awkward. All in all, your drawings are awesome! (I can never do the shojo thing at all... I draw like a man... D:) <3 the hair!

Blade, thanks for your critique, but it's rough sketch so when i go back through and ink it and color it, it'll be better. all those things you mentioned aren't even on my mind when i'm just sketching something, since a sketch is just a simple sketch. but when it's all colored and inked, and you still see something wrong with it, please feel free to critique. ^__^ and this is my first shot at shoujo, which is a lot harder than it looks, everyone is so skinny, and the hair takes so much time... T__T. I;m glad you guys like it though, i'll do my best to continue to become a better shoujo artist lol! yosh!

Posts: 489 Group: Administrator Member #684 Joined: July 11, 2007	i think it looks great, especially when considering it's just in the 'sketch' stage @_@ i love the hair and the eyes and faces on both of them. they look like they came straight out of a shoujo manga you'd find on the shelf. the proportions and perspective are really well done. can't wait to see it finished!
